Window 8.1 and Window 8.5

Microsoft generated much buzz online on Thursday when it mistakenly released a build of the much-awaited Windows 8.1 Update 1, ahead of its scheduled launch in April 2014.

What appears to be the final build of Windows 8.1 Update 1 was leaked out online via Microsoft's Windows Update service, as the Verge reports. Users at this point have to install a series of patches before being able to install the full update, for which they need to make a few registry changes, or download the updates via direct links.

Most of the changes found in the Windows 8.1 Update 1 are said to be focused on keyboard and mouse users, as we see a desktop task bar placed above the Metro UI-style apps, and options that enable the user to minimize, close or snap Metro UI-style apps. The Redmond-based firm is also said to add a 'shut down' button on the Start screen for non-touch user machines. A new search button is also seen on the top-right corner.
Microsoft might also make its Windows 8.1 Update 1 thin-client friendly, as the updated OS is said to support configurations as low as 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage.

On Thursday, reports of Windows Phone 8.5 already being in the works were circulating the Internet. Mention of the new version of the mobile OS was spotted in a tool tip message (see image below) in the updated Windows Phone 8.1 SDK files. Not many details accompanied the Windows Phone 8.5 tool tip message, apart from hints that secondary live tile might be removed, and that the API might be altered or re-designed for some other new features. The firm is also said to be planning to change the start screen in Windows Phone 8.5.

The Windows phone 8.5 leak, coming from Arnold Vink forum, additionally mentions "Since a WP 8.1 application is now almost the same as a Win Rt application we can also (at least in the current dev preview) use the background tasks used in Win Rt apps which will allow us to run a background task every 15 minutes."
Further, some freshly leaked Windows Phone 8.1 SDK images by Roman l. via Wm power-user suggest that the proposed 'Action Center' or the notification center in WP 8.1 can support a maximum of 20 notifications for each app, messages that will be deleted after seven days. The users can tap on the notification navigating right to the particular application. The users can also clear the notifications one by one or altogether according to their needs.
If the leaked images are to be believed, developers will be able to manage notifications by tagging, grouping or replacing them as the new one comes in. The developers can also set a 'ghost toast' and an expiration time that will make the notification appear only in the Action Center and not as a toast notification on top of the screen.

Sony Vaio Flip Reviews

Vaio Flip is notable for its screen, which is attached to a hinge that lets it flip 180 degrees. The review unit was 13 inches, but it is available in 14 and 15-inch variants. There is a sliding switch that lets you lock the screen and the hinge has magnets that ensure that the screen snaps to it. You can flip it 180 degrees while watching a film and flip it back when using the keyboard.
While using the device, we rarely flipped the screen. It’s convenient to do so while watching a video or a football match, but flipping it back and forth just to use the keyboard is cumbersome.

The laptop has good build quality in spite of its portability. It weighs just 1.3 kg. The flipping mechanism feels durable and at no point did we feel it would break apart after prolonged use. Another new feature is the charging port, which allows the charging connector to move. This means that the cord will disconnect when you tug at it in a way that can damage it. This is a good addition, but it will cause the cable to disconnect sometimes, when you keep it on your lap while charging. The power brick is small and has a USB port for charging, which is a great feature.
Finally, the laptop has an 8-MP camera on its base. When you use it as a tablet, you can take photos too. Pictures were pretty good, but it’s hard to imagine anyone taking pictures with a 1.3-kg device.
Sony Vaio Flip 13 comes with Windows 8 (you can upgrade to 8.1 for free) and on the hardware front, it has Intel’s Core i 5-4200 U processor (1.6 GHz), 4 GB RAM, 128 GB solid state drive for storage and an Intel HD 4400 chip for graphics.
When we reviewed Vaio P13 and Vaio Duo 11, we had said Windows 8 is a polarising OS. Things haven’t changed much with Windows 8.1.

Samsung Launches Milk Music

There are now numerous music-streaming services that are available for various smart devices. However, Samsung Electronics think there is still enough room for one more. The company has formally entered that already crowded market through its very own free online radio service called ‘Milk Music.’
The new service is powered by Slacker. It is exclusively available in popular Galaxy devices like Galaxy S 4, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy Note 3, and even in the upcoming Galaxy S 5, which is scheduled to be released sometime in April.
In a statement, Samsung Telecommunications America president and CEO Gregory Lee said Milk Music is a fresh approach to reflect the company’s innovation to leadership and its focus on creation of best-class consumer experiences. He added that through the new service, the smartphone manufacturer would offer consumers with amazing and rich experiences that are built around their interests and lifestyle.

As a new service, Milk Music is starting with a bang. It boasts of a well-developed catalog consisting of 13 million songs. There are even over 200 ad-free online radio stations. This new app is supporting a new ‘dial design’ that Samsung claims is offering more fun and intuitive way to music listening.
There is a distinct circular dial that is at the same time customization. It would let users set up about nine of its user’s favorite stations based on genre for easier access. Users could also fine tune the genre stations according to their personal preferences.

basic features
If a user is not sure about what to specifically listen to, Milk Music has a ‘Spotlight’ feature that offers curated song selection. The songs included in it have been selected by so-called ‘taste-makers and influences.’ Just like other popular music-streaming services, Milk Music also allows creation of personalized music stations that are based on user’s favorite songs as well as albums. It could allow users to skip up to six songs every hour per station.

Touch buttons may be incorporated onto the Mac-book chassis, allowing input and output functions.
The track-pad is also said to be improved with force sensors and actuator feedback which will enable users to use the track-pad with sensors alone rather than tapping it.
